"Advisor Update #2: Becoming an Automation Expert at REEF"

Michael Pichardo September 1, 2020 Updated May 26, 2026

I made a lateral move into engineering to build automation at the enterprise level. Here's the advice that shaped my direction.

Do you set quarterly goals? Curious to see how you approach goal setting in your life.

A friend of mine, Kevin, is a big advocate of this for both business and personal life. Practicing this will help me stay on track and have something to hold myself accountable to. Any suggestions before I draft my Q4 goals?

Successful people I've spoken to have told me a) be passionate about the problem you're solving and/or b) become a subject matter expert in something valuable.

Although I have not found a problem / industry I obsess with, I know that eliminating repetitive tasks with automation is something I find exciting. In August, I made a lateral move into the Engineering team @ REEF so I could build automation solutions at the enterprise level. I want to become an expert on all things automation.

I want to thank my friend Ed who helped me last month by saying "Be an expert at something and learn how to communicate solutions to problems at an executive level." Very actionable advice that made a huge impact on my outlook.

How you can help:

By any chance do you have friends in the Music industry? Specifically targeting labels and artist management companies. Asking for a musician friend of mine.

Do you know anyone attending the workshops at Miami city hall where startups can network with local investors? If you are a startup, all you need to do is signup here. I would love to go with someone to get exposure to what's happening.

Just back from a quick birthday trip to Colombia and feeling very energized!

Grateful for your support on the entrepreneurship journey.
