"Advisor Update #20: The Campaign I Couldn't Launch and What Comes Next"

Michael Pichardo February 1, 2024 Updated May 26, 2026

I built a complete 7-email cold outreach campaign with 510 leads and a click funnel. Then it got killed before launch due to a contractual issue. Here's what I learned and what I'm doing next.

I failed yet again. I feel embarrassed to admit failure, but here we are documenting the journey 20 emails later.

To refresh you on the latest, I spent a month grinding on a cold email campaign. I wrote an incredible email copy with 7 emails, had personalization sentences for 510 high quality leads, and had an amazing website with a click funnel for leads to convert to a zoom webinar that offers value to them.

This email campaign, by design, was very reliant on leveraging the name and branding of the life insurance provider to get better click conversions. However, it was this same reason that led to a "no launch" as it would lead to a contractual violation between my client's insurance agency and the life insurance provider.

Timeboxing and setting a clear drop dead date is one of the best pieces of advice I've gotten. And that is exactly what happened here. It's the best way to stay honest with oneself when pursuing new goals. Shoutout to Blake and Asif again for teaching me this.

What's next…I've been grinding on leet code and looking to get re-hired as a software engineer. Feeling very confident in my work experience from emed. Once I secure stability, I will be in a better position to continue experimenting.

Even though it wasn't my desired outcome, I'm glad I pursued this opportunity. I learned how to find leads, set up a cold email campaign, how to pitch a grand slam offer, and gained a friend and advisor in Miami.

I love how much you all ask about my progress whenever we catch up one-on-one. It means everything to me that you are following along and rooting for me, showing that all of this is real.

In other news:

  • Finished 2 books: 4 hour work week by Tim Ferriss and Buy then Build by Walker Diebel
  • Finished a half marathon – this was challenging and led to slight injuries
  • Planning a possible trip to San Francisco for Stripe's developer conference on April 23-25.

Grateful for your support on this journey.
